Made to Order in the Netherlands

  • Every Speedster is hand-assembled and signed off by Kees van der Westen in Waalre, customisable with wood accents by Specht Design.

The Speedster earned its reputation the old-fashioned way, one hand-built machine at a time. It started as a single commission Kees van der Westen made for his friend Doug Garrott, then grew into the flagship of his atelier in Waalre, Netherlands. Each one is made to order and assembled by hand, and this black version takes the icon and dresses it down into something stealthier.

The body wears a crackle-black powder coat, a finish with real texture and depth, and the milled aluminium side panel still carries the red "Speedster" lettering as a signature. It is the same sculpture, just in a darker, quieter register that disappears into a moody kitchen instead of shouting across it.

What it does has not changed at all. Two independent 316L stainless boilers, 2.1L for coffee and 3.5L for steam, work together with a heat exchanger inside the steam boiler that preheats the water headed for your group. PID controls both, with 0.1C adjustability on the coffee boiler, and an external 300W rotary pump handles the heavy lifting. The E61-style paddle group gives you manual pre-infusion by feel, and if you want programmable pressure profiling, the optional Idro-Matic cylinder is there for it.

It plumbs in, weighs about 45 kg, and runs on 110V for North America. Pick this one if you love everything the Speedster stands for but want it to read as understated rather than front and center. It is for the home barista who likes their gear serious and a little bit subtle.
